I'm Mitch Asante, and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for DC Councilmember representing Ward 6 on the Council of the District of Columbia. Our community is unique, diverse, and full of potential. I am committed to representing you with integrity, dedication, championing your voice and sharing a vision for a brighter future.

Mitch Asante
Mitch Asante, a dedicated resident of Ward 6, is running for DC Council with a vision to foster sustainable progress, equity, and opportunity in the District of Columbia. Born in Accra, Ghana, Mitch brings a global perspective and a deep sense of community responsibility to his public service. He holds a Master’s in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island, with minors in Communications and Social Justice.
With extensive experience in the U.S. federal government and local politics, Mitch currently serves as a Management Consultant at a large consultancy based in the DMV, working closely with the U.S. Department of Transportation. His focus on civil rights capacity building and strategic planning supports the implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, benefiting the communities he aims to represent. Previously, Mitch served as a Constituent Advocate for U.S. Senator Cory Booker and as a Legislative Intern for U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, gaining firsthand experience in addressing community concerns and collaborating with government agencies.
Mitch’s passion for equitable policy and environmental sustainability is evident in his advocacy for transportation and energy justice. He is committed to promoting civil rights, ensuring equal access to opportunities for all residents. As a candidate for DC Council, Mitch aims to drive inclusive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and elevate the voices of underrepresented communities. His campaign is built on transparency, community engagement, and a commitment to addressing critical issues like housing, education, and environmental sustainability.
Mitch is also involved in professional and civic organizations, including Young Professionals in Transportation, the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, and the BlackOak Collective, and serves as an Alumni Advisor for Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is ready to lead with integrity, vision, and dedication to making Washington, D.C., a more equitable and thriving city for everyone.
